Daniel Townes

Since emerging onto the Sydney comedy scene almost a decade ago as a hot young prospect,  Daniel Townes has rapidly made his name as one of the country’s best and most sought comedians.

He headlines an enormous night of top flight comedic talent at Comedy on the Rox on Wednesday, February 29.

With his laidback style of stand-up, Townes has won over audiences worldwide, having performed in Singapore, Germany, Spain, Ireland, South Africa, Canada, Holland, and all over the UK. In Australia, he’s worked everywhere from Mildura to Broken Hill and Griffith to Wodonga.  As well as being a regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Sydney Comedy Festival, he has also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the prestigious invite-only Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, the latter  aspired to by the whole industry.

MC for the evening is Victorian Nick Cody while Sarah Furtner, all the way from WA, and Laura Hughes, who has been selected in the Melbourne International Festival’s Comedy Zone for up-and-coming comics, are the support acts.

Heat 5 of  Quest for the Best, Australia’s richest open mic competition, rounds out the bill. The Quest lineup is:

About Comedy on the Rox

Comedy on the Rox started at the Roxbury Hotel in 2005 with the specific aim of providing a professional comedy room for developing comedy talent in Sydney. With a formula of professional headliner, MC and support acts it provides open mic standard comedians the rare opportunity to perform to a paying audience. The open mic competition "Quest for the Best" delivers a cash prize of $5000 and each year the competition supporters has grown. The last four years have seen the grand final of the competiton grow to the extent where venues outside the Roxbury are needed to seat the 700 audience. 2012 will see Comedy on the Rox in its seventh year making it one of the longest running comedy venues in Sydney.
